Membership: Collective Works Gallery (1311 Gladstone Avenue. Victoria BC)
Collective Works Gallery in Fernwood, is an artist run gallery in the heart of one of Victoria’s most exciting neighborhoods. The community has received recognition internationally for it’s re development.
Each of the seventeen artists pays a fee of $100.00 per month which covers the rent, heat, lights, advertising, and infrastructure. In a real sense, the artists are part owner of the gallery for as long as their membership is in good standing.
Everyone must take on a number of duties, including…. sitting in the gallery one day a month, attending meetings, and participating in the running of the gallery.
Everyone signs up for one of the positions for, cleaning, promotion, secretarial, board members, etc.
There are many benefits to this simple structure.
1. The gallery only takes a 10% commission. (Most galleries take at least 40%)
2. Each artist has his work on display in the back half of the gallery at all times.
3. Each artist gets a two week show once a year in the front section of the gallery.
4. Support and friendship among fellow artists.
5. Web page support and promotion structure.
